WINEMAKERS NOTES : The hard podsolic clays and thirty-five year old grapevines of Vere Vineyard combine to produce extremely low grape yields. As a result, the wines generally exhibit intense flavours with great varietal definition. The 2004 vintage of Cabernet was affected by drought which kept the vines very low yielding and as a result this wine has lots of ripe tannin coupled with great varietal flavours. After cool fermentation using aromatic yeast the wine was placed into new American oak barriques. It stayed in these for eight months prior to egg fining and filtration. The wine was bottled in August 2006.

TASTING NOTES : The wine displays an excellent deep purple colour. The nose shows perfumed forest fruit and berry characters with some subtle vanillin oak overtones. The palate is full and long with exceptional Cabernet fruit characters. Herb and wild berries coupled with subtle oak and a ripe fruit finish create a mouth filling pleasure. The tannins are tight as a young wine but will soften as the wine matures. This is a full-bodied red wine with still sufficient elegance to allow the complexities of the wine to come through.
